For the first time in recent memory, the Rancho Bernardo Inn Women’s Golf Club has decided to cancel its Invitational tournament.
The annual event, originally scheduled for May 12, 2020, then postponed until Sept. 29 because of the Covid-19 pandemic, is popular among San Diego County amateur women golfers, often registering a full field only a few days after entries open.
The RBIWGC Board of Directors voted to cancel the 2020 tournament because of continuing concerns about the pandemic. Tournament protocols, such as a shotgun start and an indoor group awards luncheon, appear to be out of reach for the next several weeks, if not for the remainder of the year.
“Our Club members share the disappointment of all the players looking forward to this highly anticipated event,” said RBIWGC President Romona Smith. “The tournament will return in 2021 with heightened appreciation and gratitude for the event’s camaraderie and exciting competition.”
Refunds of entry fees are being processed for registrants and for those on the waiting list.
Next year’s RBIWGC Invitational is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11, 2021. More information will be available after the first of the year.
