Faye Tong wins sixth Club Championship
The Rancho Bernardo Inn Women’s Golf Club Championship is one of two major tournaments sponsored by the Club each year (the other is the President’s Cup). The Club Championship is a two-day tournament, generally scheduled in June. Format is stroke play, gross score. In 2022, poor course conditions forced the cancellation of the tournament for the first time in the Club’s 60-year history.
Since the first Club Championship in 1964, only one player, Faye Tong, has won the trophy in six consecutive tournaments. Three other players have won the event five times each: Mary Anderson, Gloria Morrison and Carolyn Swanson. One player, Wilma Weiser, has won the event four times. Weiser also was the Club Champion at Torrey Pines Women’s Golf Club in 1958 and 1967. Here is a complete list of Club Champions, from 1964 through 2023:
