ICONIC TROPHY ON DISPLAY — On May 22, 2018, just before the start of their regular Tuesday round, members of the Rancho Bernardo Inn Women’s Golf Club took time to gather around the Claret Jug, the trophy awarded to winners of the British Open golf tournament. The historic trophy began its 2018 tour across the United States that day at Rancho Bernardo Inn. The 147th Open Championship was played July 15-22 at Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland. The Rancho Bernardo Inn Women’s Golf Club sponsors several special tournaments and events each year, many of which are documented with photos and slideshows. Among the best-attended tournaments and events are the following:

The Invitational, scheduled each May, draws a full field of 144 women golfers from across Southern California. The first Invitational tournament was in 1964, during the Club’s initial year as an organization. In 2020, the tournament was canceled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2016, 2017 and 2019, players scored a hole-in-one during the tournament. Iris Delaney had a hole-in-one on No. 11 in 2016, and Chandra Chase had a hole-in-one on No. 11 in 2017. In 2019, Diana Bolander had a hole-in-one on No. 13. For complete results of the 2019 Invitational, please click here.

The Club Championship is a two-day major tournament, which was rescheduled in 2020 to June 16 and June 23 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Faye Tong earned the title of Club Champion for the fourth year in a row, posting a two-day gross score of 164.

An Individual Eclectic special tournament was suspended in March because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A Ryder Cup special tournament was played on August 4 and August 11.

The President’s Cup, a two-day major tournament, was played on November 3 and November 10. Faye Tong earned the winning trophy with a two-day net score of 145.

The Holiday Tournament is scheduled for December 8.

The Holiday Luncheon, originally scheduled for December 15, was canceled because of Covid-19 restrictions.
