Players win prizes at 2016 Invitational

Almost half of the 36 foursomes participating in the 2016 Rancho Bernardo Inn Women’s Golf Club Invitational won prizes for their on-course expertise.

Format for the May 17 tournament was two best balls of the foursome, and 16 groups tallied a win in gross or net scoring across four flights. The winners are listed below the slideshow of the day’s events.


A Flight:  Caroline Dixon, Cheryl Singh, Erin Rowland, Annie Governski (first place, gross); Linda Freemott, Melissa McBratney, Elaine Michaels, Cheryl Wohlgemuth (second place, gross); Paula Mullins-Worster, Patti Cohen, Miki Edwards, Debra Patterson (first place, net); Mary Bebek, Val Fitzpatrick, Carol Duda, Karen Yoshihara (second place, net).

In addition, Iris Delaney of Pala Mesa Women’s Golf Club scored a hole-in-one on the 80-yard, par-three No. 11. She said that she used an approach wedge and that the shot “went up nice and high, hit the green and sauntered into the hole.” She added that she has had four other holes-in-one, but “this one was the prettiest.”

Other winners included: Val Fitzpatrick (closest to the pin on No. 2); Nancy Amon (closest to the pin on No. 4); Nancy Minerva (closest to the pin on No. 13); Melissa McBratney (longest drive on No. 12); and Jan Higley (straightest drive on No. 8).
